Digital presence is what the customer finds before making a decision

Before visiting a store, consumers consult search engines, maps, navigation apps, social media, and business directories. In this search, they check the address, hours, phone number, photos, and what other people have said. Digital presence is the consistency of the brand across all these channels, distributed across platforms that the retailer doesn't always directly control.
The problem for a large operation isn't absence, it's discrepancy. A store might appear with outdated hours on one channel, a deactivated phone number on another, and an incomplete address on a third. Each discrepancy means a customer arriving at a closed door, calling a number that doesn't answer, or giving up halfway through. The cost is twofold because, in addition to the lost visit, the incorrect information weakens the trust signals that algorithms use to decide which establishments to recommend.

What we cover in this category

The content here covers network data standardization, management of local business directories, presence on maps and navigation apps, store profiles on social networks, and the effect of misinformation on the consumer journey to the point of sale.
We also discuss governance: who can change what, how the parent company ensures standardization without hindering the autonomy of the unit, and how to periodically audit a database with dozens or hundreds of establishments to find discrepancies before the customer discovers them.
Specific channel tactics are not covered here. Search engine optimization and Google profile operation have their own categories on this blog because they require particular technical depth. Here, the focus is on the whole picture, because digital presence only works when the entire network says the same thing everywhere the customer searches.

How does Harmo fit into this issue?

The Harmo Platform keeps data from over 24,000 stores consistent across the channels where consumers search before making a decision. Governance is handled by the headquarters, execution reaches the unit level, and every change is traceable. If your network is experiencing issues with incorrect hours, incomplete addresses, or deactivated phone numbers in some stores, speak with a specialist.
