Network marketing is a two-layered problem

Marketing for a brick-and-mortar retail chain is like operating on two levels simultaneously. There's the national brand layer, which builds positioning, sustains campaigns, and defines identity. And there's the local unit layer, where the purchase decision actually happens and where consumers compare establishments just a few kilometers from each other.
The two layers are not interchangeable. A well-executed national campaign doesn't fix the reputation of a specific store, and a well-rated unit doesn't compensate for a lack of brand investment. Those who manage chain marketing spend a good part of their time balancing the two, negotiating budgets, defining what falls under the parent company's responsibility and what falls under the point of sale's responsibility, and trying to maintain standards without stifling those at the front line.

The topics in this category

Here we've gathered content on marketing strategy and execution for operations with many stores. This covers campaign planning, leveraging seasonality, local marketing per unit, team structuring and sizing, cooperative budget models, and designing the relationship between headquarters and franchisees or store managers.
We also address promotional calendars, point-of-sale activation, and the ongoing challenge of measuring return on investment in a channel where conversion happens physically. Topics related to digital presence and organic search have their own categories on this blog because they require specific technical depth. Here, the focus is on management: how to decide where to invest, how much, and with what expected results.

How does Harmo fit into this issue?
