One of the solutions for retailers to mitigate the financial crisis caused by isolation, a consequence of the coronavirus, is to adopt the delivery system.
One potential solution could be to partner with the delivery app Rappi, which has seen demand triple in recent weeks, especially for groceries, pharmacy items, and meals, according to S/A Varejo.
But how do these delivery apps work? Which ones are available on the market, and which one best suits your business?
In 2018 and 2019 , Liga Insights released two reports on startups operating in delivery, reverse logistics, and shipping. We've listed 9 of them here and provided a brief description of what they are and how they work. Keep reading to find out which ones they are.
Multi-delivery companies for retail
Sales of food, beverages, and hygiene and cleaning products, along with delivery apps, are the new growth areas of online commerce. "Apps have a multiplier effect and are helping to popularize e-commerce," says Carlos Coutinho, partner at the consulting firm PwC Brazil.
Eduardo Terra, president of the Brazilian Retail Society, says that the partnership between apps and supermarkets is irreversible, as smartphones have changed shopping habits and companies are racing to be better positioned than their rivals in this new market.
According to Terra, despite being a new channel, supermarket sales through delivery apps are advancing rapidly and already represent between 5% and 10% of some stores' revenue.

Check out the list of 9 companies that deliver to the retail sector
1) Rappi | We deliver what you need
What is it:
On-demand delivery startup. Delivery from restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, beverages, and various other partner establishments. In the "Anything" option, the user can hire special services such as cash delivery or flower delivery, for example.
How it works:
The customer enters the platform. Chooses one of the registered establishments. Adds the products to the cart. Purchase completed. Rappi makes the delivery.
Customers:
Carrefour, Panvel Pharmacies, AmPm, Petz, Drogasil.
2) Loggi | We locate the nearest and most available motorcycle courier to serve offices, restaurants, e-commerce businesses, and you.
What is it:
Loggi is a technology company that connects customers who need a delivery with an available courier. They are not a motorcycle courier company; they offer a bridge between the customer and the courier.
How it works:
The end customer places the order directly with the establishment. The establishment, in turn, accesses the platform and schedules the delivery. Payment for the order can be made to the delivery driver.
Customers:
Madero, Samsung, Dafiti, Mercado Livre, Pizza Hut.
3) I Deliver | We connect retailers to the largest network of independent delivery drivers in Brazil.
What is it:
Eu Entrego is similar to the idea of Loggi, the difference being that they act as a bridge between individuals and freelance delivery drivers (who can be anyone, a student, a teacher, an electrician).
How it works:
The consumer accesses the platform, specifies what needs to be delivered, where, and how much they are willing to pay for the service. The delivery person accepts the offer or makes a counter-offer. And the entire delivery process can be tracked through the platform.
Customers:
Carrefour, Pão de Açúcar, Casas Bahia, Ponto Frio, Arezzo, Rihappy.
4) Shipp | We're your delivery service for everything. Order whatever you want. Receive it wherever you are.
What is it:
A digital platform that provides delivery services for almost anything. A "delivery of everything". When you register with Shipp, the company sets up your online store and takes care of all the delivery logistics.
How it works:

5) B2log | Creative delivery solution for e-commerce
What is it:
This is a delivery marketplace for e-commerce focused on short delivery times, such as "same-day" or "within 24 hours".
How it works:
b2log collects items from establishments in the morning between 6 am and 9 am and in the afternoon between 12 pm and 2 pm. After collection, the vehicle heads to the hubs from where deliveries are made by scooter, bicycle, car, or motorcycle to the recipient, completing the deliveries.
Customers:
Livraria Cultura, Dafiti, Kanui, Decathlon, My Shoes, Rihappy.
6) James | Your delivery service for anything.
What is it:
James is also a multi-delivery platform that connects customers, delivery drivers, and establishments. Interestingly, they were acquired by Grupo Pão de Açúcar in 2018, and therefore, in the supermarket sector, GPA now serves them exclusively.
How it works:
The user enters the platform and selects the establishment from which they wish to order. They select the items they want and add them to their cart. They finalize the purchase. James then handles the delivery.
Customers:
Bob's, Drogaria Extra, Subway, McDonald's, Minuto Pão de Açúcar.
7) Pedala | Sustainable delivery for your e-commerce
What is it:
Pedala is a logistics company that emits zero CO2. All of its deliveries are made 100% by bicycle. Currently, they operate in the greater São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro areas (South, North, and West Zones).
How it works
A collection vehicle picks up orders at the establishment. The orders are taken to Pedala's distribution centers and sorted according to deadlines and zip codes. Pedala's cyclists arrive at the distribution centers, pick up the orders that have already been sorted by route, and start pedaling to make the deliveries.
Customers:
Americanas, Submarino, Farm, Netshoes, Reserv, Nespresso.
8) Shippfy | collaborative delivery network
What is it:
They work with a collaborative network of delivery drivers, where anyone (cyclist, taxi driver, motorcycle courier, or anyone with a car) can work delivering packages and earning a commission for it.
How it works:
The app connects registered delivery drivers with merchants who need a delivery service. The drivers receive task information and decide whether or not to complete the delivery. They can make deliveries by bike, car, or motorcycle.
Customers:
We couldn't find that information.
9) Logbee | Urban Deliveries for E-commerce
What is it
A logistics intelligence company connected to a network of independent drivers. It allows independent drivers to serve companies as if they were a professional transport company.
How it works
The customer generates the delivery request (address and deadlines). Logbee creates the delivery routes and selects the drivers. The drivers receive instructions and carry out the deliveries.
Customers
Magazine Luiza, Print, Rei da Oferta, B.blend, The Hunch Box.
As mentioned at the beginning of this text, delivery companies can greatly help retailers continue making sales. Therefore, evaluate the options above, but don't limit yourself to them.
Also check the possibility of hiring temporary, freelance motorcycle couriers in your area. Besides helping the community where your brand is located, the rates may be more attractive with this option.
If you choose to hire a motorcycle courier from your area, it's important that you provide training on how to operate in this quarantine scenario, how to protect yourself and others as well.
